Pinpoint Test Ai : The Water In Fuel Indicator Is Never Or Always On

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Water In Fuel Indicator. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the water in fuel message is missing or invalid for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the water in fuel indicator or water in fuel indicator to its last state (on or off) based upon the last message received.

    If the water in fuel message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the water in fuel indicator or water in fuel indicator off.

    Possible Sources 

    • Communication concern
    • Message center concern
    • GWM concern
    • PCM
    • IPC

  2. AI1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) 
    No  GO to  AI2

  3. AI2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCMKOEO self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS (1.0L) or refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS (2.0L)
    No  GO to  AI3

  4. AI3 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes 
    No  GO to  AI4

  5. AI4 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Select the IPC water in fuel indicator PID (WATER_IN_FUEL).

    • Command all the warning lamps on then off while observing the water in fuel indicator.

    Does the water in fuel indicator turn on when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  Refer to PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
