Pinpoint Test Ah : The Wait To Start Indicator Is Never Or Always On

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Wait To Start Indicator. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the glow indication message is missing or invalid for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the wait to start indicator to its last state (on or off) based upon the last message received.

    If the glow indication message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the wait to start indicator off.

    Possible Sources 

    • Communication concern
    • GWM concern
    • PCM
    • IPC

  2. AH1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) 
    No  GO to  AH2
  3. AH2 CHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the PCMKOEO Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS (1.0L) or refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS (2.0L)
    No  GO to  AH3
  4. AH3 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes 
    No  GO to  AH4
  5. AH4 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Select the IPC wait to start indicator PID (GLOW_IND).

    • Command all the warning lamps on then off while observing the wait to start indicator.

    Does the wait to start indicator turn on when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  Refer to PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
