- Lubricate the input shaft with a thin coating of grease.
Material
: Motorcraft® High Temperature 4x4 Front Axle and Wheel Bearing Grease / XG-11 (WSS-M1C267-A1)
- Install the following items:
- Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
- Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
- Use the General Equipment: Retaining Strap
- Install the transmission.
- Install the bellhousing bolts. Tighten on both sides simultaneously.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Remove the Transmission Jack.
- Install the transmission support insulator bracket.
Torque
: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)
- Raise the engine and transmission assembly.

WARNING: Make sure that a new bolt is installed.
Install the transmission support insulator and the bolt.
Torque
: 109 lb.ft (148 Nm)
- Remove the special tool. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1554 Engine Support Bar.

- Install the catalytic converter support bracket. Tighten the bolts.
Torque
: 37 lb.ft (50 Nm)
- Tighten the bolts.
Torque
: 19 lb.ft (26 Nm)
- Install the catalytic converter support bracket. Tighten the bolts.
- Install the exhaust hanger bolts.
Torque
: 19 lb.ft (26 Nm)

- Install the roll restrictor and roll restrictor bracket. Install the roll restrictor bracket bolts.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the roll restrictor-to-subframe bolt.
Torque
: 92 lb.ft (125 Nm)
- Install the roll restrictor and roll restrictor bracket. Install the roll restrictor bracket bolts.

NOTE: Make sure that new components are installed.
Install the muffler and tailpipe gasket and nuts.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the clutch hydraulic tube in the slave cylinder.

NOTE: Make sure that the wiring harness does not catch.
- Install the starter and the bolts.
Torque
: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)
- Install the wiring retainer and the nuts.
Torque
: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Install the starter and the bolts.
- Install a new halfshaft seal. Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH .

NOTE: Do not fully install the halfshaft at this time.
Using part: 97ZT-7M181-A Seal Protector, install the intermediate shaft into the transmission.

NOTE: Insert the intermediate shaft until the intermediate shaft bearing is centered in the concave groove of the intermediate shaft bearing bracket.
Remove the seal protector and install the intermediate shaft into the transmission.
- Install the intermediate shaft bearing strap and tighten the nuts.
Torque
:Stage 1: Lower nut:: 44 lb.in (5 Nm) Stage 2: Upper nut:: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm) Stage 3: Lower nut:: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Install the lower control arm in the steering knuckle and install the bolt and nut.
Torque
: 61 lb.ft (83 Nm)
- Install the brake hose on the steering knuckle and install the bolt.
Torque
: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- If equipped, Install the ride height sensor bolt.
- Install the following items:
- Refer to: Front Halfshaft LH .
- Install both front wheels. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
- Install the ground strap and the wiring retainer.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Fill the transmission. Refer to: Transmission Draining and Filling .
- Install the engine undershield and screws.
- Install the bellhousing bolts.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the gearshift cables.
- Connect the reverse switch electrical connector.
- Install the battery tray support bracket and the nuts and connect the wiring retainers.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the following items:
- Refer to: Battery Tray .
- Refer to: Battery .
- Refer to: Air Cleaner .
- Refer to: Gearshift Cable Adjustment - 5-Speed Manual Transmission - MTX75 .
- Refer to: Clutch System Bleeding - 5-Speed Manual Transmission - MTX75 .
- After completing the repairs, perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure. Use the General Equipment: Ford Diagnostic Equipment
- Start and check the exhaust for leaks.
