Engine - 6-Speed Manual Transmission - B6

Lifting Bracket
Floor Crane
Oil Drain Equipment
Trolley Jack
Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
Wooden Block
NOTE: Whenever the turbocharger air intake system components are removed, always cover the open ports to protect them from debris. It is important that no foreign material enter the system. The turbocharger compressor vanes are susceptible to damage from even small particles. All of the components should be inspected and cleaned, if needed, prior to installation or reassembly.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  4. NOTE: Note the position of the component before removal.

    On both sides. Mark the hood hinge location on both sides.

  5. Remove the retainers and the hood insulator.

    1. Disconnect the windshield washer hose.
    2. With the aid of an assistant, remove the nuts and the hood.

  7. Remove the cowl panel grille. Refer to: Cowl Panel Grille .
  8. Remove the bolts and the cowl panel.

  9. Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to: Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  10. Remove the following items:

    1. Starter. Refer to: Starter Motor .
    2. Catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter .

    • Disconnect the turbocharger boost pressure (TCBP) and charger air cooler temperature (CACT) sensor electrical connector.

    • Disconnect the crankcase pressure sensor electrical connector.

    • Detach the wiring harness retainer.

    1. Disconnect the vacuum hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
    2. Disconnect the quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    3. Remove the nuts.
    4. Loosen the clamp and remove the TC inlet pipe.

    1. Disconnect the EVAP purge valve electrical connector.
    2. Disconnect the quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    3. Detach the retainers and remove the EVAP tube assembly.

    1. Remove the CAC outlet pipe bracket bolt.
    2. Loosen the clamps and remove the CAC outlet pipe.

  15. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    1. Disconnect the degas bottle coolant tubes.
    2. Release the clamp and disconnect the degas bottle coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
    3. Release the tabs and remove the degas bottle.

  16. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Release clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    1. Remove the CAC inlet pipe mounting nuts and bolt.
    2. Loosen the clamp and remove the CAC inlet pipe.

    1. Remove the cap, the nut and detach the battery cable.
    2. Disconnect the generator electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainers.

    • Disconnect the MAP sensor and fuel injection harness electrical connectors.

    • Detach the wiring harness retainers.

    1. Remove and discard the nuts and the axle bearing strap.
    2. Remove the bolts and the axle shaft bracket.

  30. Disconnect the oil control solenoid electrical connector.

    • Detach the wiring harness retainer.

  41. Remove the drain plug, drain engine oil and install drain plug. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    Torque

    : 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    Remove and discard the engine oil filter.
