Battery Disconnect and Connect

For information on Ford Color Coded Illustrations refer to OEM COLOR CODING

Disconnect 

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and connected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven to allow the PCM to relearn the adaptive strategy values.
NOTE: When disconnecting the battery ground cable to interrupt power to the vehicle electrical system, disconnect the battery ground cable only. It is not necessary to disconnect the positive battery cable.

Disconnecting the battery ground cable to interrupt power to the vehicle electrical system only 

  1. Remove the bolt and position the negative battery cable.

    Torque

    : 16 lb.ft (22 Nm)

  2. Using electrical tape, cover the negative battery cable terminal.

    Disconnecting the battery cables 

    NOTE: The cowl panel is removed for clarity only.
  3. Release the tabs and remove the battery covers.

  4. Remove the nuts and battery hold-down bracket. Release the tabs and position aside the high current BJB.

  5. Position the battery forward.

    1. Loosen the nut and remove the negative battery cable from the battery terminal post.

      Torque

      : 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    2. Loosen the nut and remove the positive battery cable from the battery terminal post.

      Torque

      : 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

Connect 

    • Reverse the disconnection procedure.
