Valve Cover: Removal

- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Remove the oil filler cap and the engine appearance cover. Install the oil filler cap.
- Disconnect the vacuum pump inlet tube coupling.

NOTE: Whenever the turbocharger air intake system components are removed, always cover the open ports to protect them from debris. It is important that no foreign material enter the system. The turbocharger compressor vanes are susceptible to damage from even small particles. All of the components should be inspected and cleaned, if needed, prior to installation or reassembly.
- Loosen the air cleaner outlet pipe clamps, remove the nuts. Disconnect the vacuum tube from air outlet pipe. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
Torque
:1: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)2: 35 lb.in (4 Nm)
- Disconnect the fuel evaporative tube quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Disconnect the PCV coupling.
- If equipped, disconnect the crankcase pressure sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector and remove the air cleaner outlet pipe assembly.
- Clean, inspect, and cover all open ports.
- Loosen the air cleaner outlet pipe clamps, remove the nuts. Disconnect the vacuum tube from air outlet pipe. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

- Disconnect the fuel evaporative tube quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector. Detach the retainers and remove the fuel evaporative tube assembly.
- Detach the retainers, clamp and position the vacuum tubes aside. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Remove the following items:
- Refer to: Fuel Rail .
- Refer to: High-Pressure Fuel Pump .

- Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the retainer and the exhaust CMP sensor.

: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the retainer and the intake CMP sensor.

Torque
: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the retainer and the exhaust CMP sensor.
- Detach the retainers and position the wire harness aside.
- Remove the bolt, nuts and the heat shield.
Torque
:1: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)2: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)
- Disconnect the PCV tube coupling.

- Remove the oil level indicator.
- Remove the studs, bolts and the valve cover.
- Inspect the valve cover gasket, replace if necessary.
