Fuel Injectors: Installation

1.

Install the new fuel injector sealing washers.

NOTE: The PCM is programmed with an IQA code for each fuel injector. If a new fuel injector is installed record the new fuel injector IQA code located on top of the fuel injector and the cylinder location.

NOTE: If a fuel injector is being reused, make sure to install the fuel injector in the original location.

NOTE: Only tighten the bolts finger tight.

Install the fuel injectors, the fuel injector clamps and then install the fuel injector clamp bolts finger tight.

NOTE: This uneven torque strategy is intentional as tightening bolt 2 cantilevers the injector clamp about the injector, increasing the clamp load imparted by bolt 1.
- Tighten bolt number 1 to
  Torque: 18 lb.in (2 Nm)
- Torque:
  Tighten bolt number 2 in the following 2 stages:
  
  Stage 1: 35 lb.in (4 Nm)
  
  Stage 2: 360°
- Torque:
  Tighten both of the number 3 bolts in the following 2 stages:
  
  Stage 1: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)
  
  Stage 2: 360°

5.

NOTE: Make sure that new fuel injector supply tubes are installed for the fuel injector supply tubes that were removed.

NOTE: Use care to avoid any tool contact with the fuel injector actuator during the fuel injector supply tube installation or damage to the fuel injector may occur.

NOTE: Install the new removed fuel injector supply tubes finger tight at this stage.

NOTE: Use a back-up wrench on the fuel injector fittings.
- 1.
  
  Tighten the fuel injector supply tube flare nuts at the fuel rail.
  Torque: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)
- 2.
  
  Tighten the fuel injector supply tube flare nuts at the fuel injectors in the following 3 stages.
  Torque:
  
  Stage 1: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)
  
  Stage 2: Wait 30s
  
  Stage 3: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)
- 3.
  
  Tighten the fuel injector supply tube flare nuts at the fuel rail.
  Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

6.

Install the fuel injector fuel return line. Refer to: Fuel Injector Fuel Return Line .

7.

Connect the fuel injector electrical connectors.

8.

Install the leak-off rail connector protector bracket.
Torque:

Stage 1: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

Stage 2: 45°

9.

Connect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect - Vehicles With: Dual Batteries .

10.

Bleed the Fuel System. Refer to: Fuel System Bleeding .

11.

Remove the oil filler cap. Install the engine appearance cover, position the hose back and install the oil filler cap.

- NOTE: The PCM Reset And Clear The Specified Functions, Reset Minimum Fuel Mass Adaptations For Cylinder X and Fuel Injector #X Adaptive Reset must be performed for any of the replaced fuel injectors.
  
  Using the scan tool, follow the on-screen instructions and Reset And Clear The Specified Function Reset Minimum Fuel Mass Adaptations For Cylinder X and Fuel Injector #X Adaptive Reset on the scan tool for any of the fuel injectors that were replaced.
- NOTE: The PCM must be programmed with the proper fuel injector IQA codes.
  
  Using the scan tool, follow the on-screen instructions and program the PCM with the appropriate fuel injector IQA code for any fuel injector that was replaced.
