Pinpoint Test Ah: The Safety Belt Warning Chime Or The Belt-Minder® Chime Is Inoperative

  1. AH1 CHECK THE HEADLAMPS ON WARNING CHIME OPERATION 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Close the LH  front door.
    • Place the headlamp switch in the HEADLAMP or PARKING LAMP position.
    • Open the driver front door and observe the headlamps on warning chime operation.
    • Turn the headlamps/parklamps off.

    Does the headlamps on warning chime sound with the headlamps/parking lamps on and the LH front door open and turn off with the headlamps/parking lamps off? 

    1. Yes  : For the Belt-Minder®, GO to AH2 

      For the safety belt warning chime, GO to  AH3

    2. No  : INSTALL a new IPC  .

      REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .

  2. AH2 CHECK THE SPEEDOMETER OPERATION 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Verify the speedometer operates.

    Does the speedometer operate? 

    1. Yes  : GO to AH3 
    2. No  : GO to PINPOINT TEST C 
  3. AH3 PERFORM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) SELF-TEST 
    • Using a scan tool, perform the IPC  self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    1. Yes  : REFER to DTC CHART: IPC .
    2. No  : GO to AH4 
  4. AH4 PERFORM THE GATEWAY MODULE (GWM) SELF-TEST 
    • Using a scan tool, perform the GWM  self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    1. Yes  : REFER to: COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    2. No  : GO to AH5 
  5. AH5 PERFORM THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) SELF-TEST 
    • Using a scan tool, perform the PCM  self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    1. Yes  : REFER to: ELECTRIC POWERTRAIN CONTROL .
    2. No  : GO to AH6 
  6. AH6 PERFORM THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) SELF-TEST 
    • Using a scan tool, perform the BCM  self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    1. Yes  : REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .
    2. No  : GO to AH7 
  7. AH7 PERFORM THE RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM) SELF-TEST 
    • Using a scan tool, perform the RCM  self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    1. Yes  : REFER to: AIRBAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) - VEHICLES BUILT FROM: 11-JUNE-2012 .
    2. No  : GO to AH8 
  8. AH8 CHECK THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SAFETY BELT BUCKLE SWITCH 
    • Using a scan tool, monitor the RCM  driver and front passenger safety belt buckle Parameter Identifications (PIDs) (SBELT_D_ST) and (SBLT_P_ST) while buckling and unbuckling the safety belt.

    Do the Parameter Identifications (PIDs) display BUCKLED with the safety belt buckled and UNBUCKLED with the safety belt unbuckled? 

    1. Yes  : GO to AH9 
    2. No  : INSTALL a new safety belt buckle.

      REFER to: FRONT SAFETY BELT BUCKLE - VEHICLES BUILT FROM: 11-JUNE-2012 .

  9. AH9 CHECK THE BELT-MINDER® CONFIGURATION 
    NOTE: Verify that an administrator key is used for this test and not a MyKey® programmed key. When a MyKey® programmed key is used, the Belt-Minder® is automatically turned on and cannot be disabled (if previously disabled by an administrator, the Belt-Minder® remains disabled when an administrator key is used).

    Is the Belt-Minder activated for the seating position in question? 

    1. Yes  : If the Belt-Minder® is always on above 10 km/h (6 mph) with the safety belt unfastened, the system is operating correctly. If the Belt-Minder® is always on with the safety belt fastened or never on with the safety belt unfastened above 10 km/h (6 mph), INSTALL a new RCM  .

      REFER to: RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM) .

    2. No  : ACTIVATE the Belt-Minder® for the seating position in question.

      REFER to: SAFETY BELT MINDER DEACTIVATING/ACTIVATING .
