Perform the visual inspection. Connect the scan tool. Retrieve and record all DTCs. Record freeze frame data. Clear all DTCs. Perform the KOEO ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST. Perform the KOER ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST. Is DTC P0236, P0237 or P0238 present? If yes, for DTC P0236, go to next step. For DTC P0237, go to step 6). For DTC P0238, go to step 10). If no, unable to duplicate condition. Check for loose connection, damaged or corroded pins. Wiggle harness attempting to recreate the fault. Repair as necessary. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - 6.0L DIESEL article, if a driveability concern exists. - 2) DTC P0236
Possible causes are:- Damaged MAP hose.
- Low turbo boost.
- Intake manifold or crossover tube hose leaks.
- Faulty MAP sensor.
- Faulty PCM.
Perform visual inspection. Inspect MAP sensor hose and manifolds for damage, leaks, restrictions and misrouting. Are manifolds and MAP hose okay and free from damage? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair leaks as necessary. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system.
- 3) Check MAP Sensor
Access MAP VOLT PID. Key on. Is the voltage plus or minus 0.5 volt for given altitude? If yes, go to next step. If no, install a new MAP sensor. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. - 4) MAP Sensor Voltage Check
Disconnect pressure hose from MAP sensor. Key on, engine off. Using Pressure Adapter Kit (014-00761) or equivalent (gauge bar), apply 10 psi (69 kPa) of pressure to the MAP sensor. Measure voltage between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ground. See Figure. Is the voltage reading 2.5-3.1 volt? If yes, go to next step. If no, install a new MAP sensor. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. - 5) MAP Performance Test
Connect pressure hose to MAP sensor. Disconnect MAP sensor pressure hose from intake manifold and install a pressure (boost) gauge. Road test the vehicle and accelerate vehicle to achieve full boost. Is engine boost 12 psi (82 kPa) or greater? If yes, restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. If DTC returns, install a new PCM. If no, inspect intake manifolds, crossover tubes for leaks. Check turbo condition. See TURBOCHARGER under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - 6.0L DIESEL article. - 6) DTC P0237
Possible causes are:- MAP signal circuit open or shorted to ground.
- Open VREF circuit.
- Faulty MAP sensor.
- Faulty PCM.
Key off. Disconnect the MAP sensor. Key on. Measure the voltage between the VREF circuit at MAP sensor connector terminal No. 1 and signal return circuit terminal No. 3. See Figure. Is the voltage between 4.5 and 5.5 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in VREF or signal return circuit. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and RETEST the system.
- 7) Check Signal Circuit For A Short To Ground
Key off. Disconnect the PCM body harness electrical connector C1381A. Measure the resistance between the MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair short to ground in the signal circuit. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. - 8) Check Signal Circuit For An Open
Measure the resistance between MAP sensor electrical connector signal circuit terminal Y2 and PCM body harness electrical connector C1381A terminal No. 41. See CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in signal circuit. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. - 9) Check Map Sensor Circuit
Reconnect the PCM body harness connector. Key on, engine off. Access MAP VOLT PID. Record the MAP VOLT PID reading. Install a jumper wire between MAP sensor VREF circuit (terminal No. 1) and signal circuit (terminal No. 2). Is the MAP PID voltage reading approximately 4.0 to 5.5 volts? If yes, install a new MAP sensor. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. If no, install a new PCM. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. - 10) DTC P0238
Possible causes are:- Signal circuit shorted to power.
- Open ground circuit.
- Faulty MAP.
- Faulty PCM.
Induce opposite DTC. Install the scan tool. Clear all DTCs. Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector. Perform the KOEO ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST. Is DTC P0237 set? If yes, install a new MAP sensor. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. If no, go to next step.
- 11) Check MAP Sensor Signal Circuit For A Short To Voltage
Key off. Disconnect the PCM body harness connector C1381A. Key on. Measure the voltage between the MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ground. See Figure. Is the voltage less than 0.2 volt? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair short to voltage in signal circuit. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. - 12) Check MAP Sensor Signal Return For An Open
Key off. Measure the resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 signal return and PCM body harness electrical connector C1381A terminal No. 33.
