Test U: Message Center Compass Inoperative

  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform Message Center Module (MCM) self-test. If DTC B2013 is retrieved, go to next step. If any other DTCs were retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTCs retrieved. See MESSAGE CENTER MODULE (MCM) DTC INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to step  8.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect compass sensor module 4-pin harness connector C918. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between compass sensor module harness connector C918 terminal No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire) and ground. If voltage is more then 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Red/Yellow wire.
  3. Measure resistance between compass sensor module harness connector C918 terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
  4. Remove instrument cluster and disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C239. Measure resistance between compass sensor module harness connector C918 terminal No. 3 (White/Orange wire) and instrument cluster harness connector C239 terminal No. 13 (White/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Orange wire.
  5. Measure resistance between compass sensor module harness connector C918 terminal No. 3 (White/Orange wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Orange wire.
  6. Measure resistance between compass sensor module harness connector C918 terminal No. 4 (White/Black wire) and instrument cluster harness connector C239 terminal No. 12 (White/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Black wire.
  7. Measure resistance between compass sensor module harness connector C918 terminal No. 4 (White/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, reconnect instrument cluster and go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Black wire.
  8. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Select compass/outside temperature display. Observe message center display. If outside temperature display is not operating correctly, perform TEST X: MESSAGE CENTER OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DISPLAY OPERATES INCORRECTLY . If outside temperature display is operating correctly, replace compass sensor module.
