Pinpoint Test V: The Parking, Rear Or License Lamps Are On Continuously

  1. V1 CHECK THE EXTERIOR LAMPS 
    • Observe the exterior parking lamps.
    • Are all the parking lamps illuminated? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V2.
    2. No  : GO to  V6.
  2. V2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH INPUT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Monitor the instrument cluster headlamp switch status PID while rotating the knob to the parking lamps ON and then OFF positions.
    • Does the PID match with the headlamp switch position? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V5.
    2. No  : GO to V3.
  3. V3 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
    • Carry out the headlamp switch component test. COMPONENT TESTING .
    • Is the headlamp switch OK? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V4.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to HEADLAMP SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. V4 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-LF14 (WH/BU) FOR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220c.
    • Measure the resistance between the headlamp switch C205-5, circuit 8-LF14 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : GO to V5.
  5. V5 CHECK FOR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. Refer to INFORMATION, GAUGES & WARNING DEVICES . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. V6 CHECK THE CONTROL GROUND CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: REM C420a and C420e.
    • Disconnect: FEM C201b and C201c.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Does the parking, rear or license lamps continue to illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR the control ground circuit as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : For the front lamp, GO to V7.

    For the rear or license lamp, GO to  V8.

  7. V7 CHECK FOR FEM OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all FEM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all FEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new FEM. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
  8. V8 CHECK FOR REM OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all REM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all REM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new REM. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
