Pinpoint Test X: The Fog Lamps Are On Continuously

- X1 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH OUTPUT
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect the diagnostic tool.
- Key in ON position.
- Monitor the instrument cluster fog lamp switch status PID while rotating the knob to the parking lamps ON position and then engaging the fog lamp switch.
- Does the PID match with the headlamp switch position?
- Yes : GO to X5.
- No : GO to X2.
- X2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
- Carry out the headlamp switch component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING .
- Is the headlamp switch OK?
- Yes : GO to X3.
- No : INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to HEADLAMP SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
- X3 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-LD10 (WH/BK) FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220c.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220c-13, circuit 8-LD10 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to X4.
- X4 CHECK FOR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. Refer to INFORMATION, GAUGES & WARNING DEVICES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
- X5 CHECK THE FEM
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: FEM C201c.
- Key in ON position.
- Do the fog lamps continue to illuminate?
- Yes : GO to X7.
- No : GO to X6.
- X6 CHECK FOR FEM OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect all FEM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all FEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new FEM. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
- X7 CHECK CIRCUIT 30S-LD2 (RD/BU), 30S-LD11 (RD/WH) AND 30S-LD17 (RD/WH) FOR SHORT TO POWER
- Disconnect: Fog Lamp Relay C1007.
- Do the fog lamps continue to illuminate?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to X8.
- X8 CHECK THE FOG LAMP RELAY
- Carry out the fog lamp relay component test.
Refer to COMPONENT TESTING .
- Is the fog lamp relay OK?
- Yes : REPAIR circuit 31S-LD9 (BK/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSTALL a new fog lamp relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Carry out the fog lamp relay component test.
