Pinpoint Test W: The Fog Lamps Are Inoperative

  1. W1 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH OUTPUT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Monitor the instrument cluster fog lamp switch status PID while rotating the knob to the parking lamps ON position and then engaging the fog lamp switch.
    • Does the PID match with the headlamp switch position? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  W5.
    2. No  : GO to W2.
  2. W2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
    • Carry out the headlamp switch component test. COMPONENT TESTING .
    • Is the headlamp switch OK? 
    1. Yes  : GO to W3.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to HEADLAMP SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. W3 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-LD10 (WH/BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220c.
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220c-13, circuit 8-LD10 (WH/BK), harness side and the headlamp switch C205-6, circuit 8-LD10 (WH/BK), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to W4.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. W4 CHECK FOR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. Refer to INFORMATION, GAUGES & WARNING DEVICES . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. W5 CHECK THE FOG LAMP RELAY 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Fog Lamp Relay C1007.
    • Carry out the fog lamp relay component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING .
    • Is the fog lamp relay OK? 
    1. Yes  : GO to W6.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new fog lamp relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. W6 CHECK CIRCUITS 30S-LD8A (RD) AND 30S-LD8B (RD) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the voltage between the fog lamp relay C1007-3, circuit 30S-LD8A (RD), harness side and ground; and between the fog lamp relay C1007-1, circuit 30S-LD8B (RD), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    1. Yes  : GO to W7.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. W7 CHECK CIRCUIT 30S-LD2 (RD/BU) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Connect a fused (15A) jumper wire between the fog lamp relay C1007-3, circuit 30S-LD8A (RD), harness side and the fog lamp relay C1007-5, circuit 30S-LD2 (RD/BU), harness side.

    • Do the fog lamps illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to W8.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. W8 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-LD9 (BK/GN) FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Disconnect: FEM C201c.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the fog lamp relay C1007-2, circuit 31S-LD9 (BK/GN), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. Yes  : GO to W9.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. W9 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-LD9 (BK/GN) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: Fog Lamp Relay C1007.
    • Connect a fused (10A) jumper wire between the FEM C201c-5, circuit 31S-LD9 (BK/GN), harness side and ground.

    • Do the fog lamps illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : GO to W10.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  10. W10 CHECK FOR FEM OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all FEM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all FEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new FEM. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
