Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Instrument cluster is a Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC). HEC has self-diagnostic system which may store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). HEC communicates with Generic Electronic Module (GEM) or Central Timer Module (CTM). GEM and CTM have self-diagnostic capabilities. DTCs stored in HEC and GEM/CTM may be obtained with New Generation Star (NGS) tester. HEC DTCs may also be displayed on instrument cluster through the odometer. See USING HYBRID ELECTRONIC CLUSTER .
