WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood and 2002 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Large metallic objects on the same key ring with PATS ignition key may cause vehicle starting problems and record DTCs under certain conditions. If a fault cannot be identified, examine key ring for such objects. If objects are found that could interfere with PATS operation, turn ignition switch to LOCK position and restart engine with all metallic objects held away from ignition key.
  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Using NGS tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If DTC B1602 exists, go to next step. If DTC B1602 does not exist, system is functioning properly at this time. Check all encoded keys to ensure they are programmed.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check that all ignition keys are approved Ford encoded PATS ignition keys. Cut a NEW encoded ignition key. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Program NEW encoded ignition key. See ERASE ALL KEYS & PROGRAM 2 KEYS  under PROGRAMMING. Perform instrument cluster self-test. If DTC B1602 exists, go to next step. If DTC B1602 does not exist, system is functioning properly at this time.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Replace PATS transceiver module. See PATS TRANSCEIVER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform instrument cluster self-test. If any DTCs exist, perform appropriate test. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs exist, system is functioning properly at this time.
