Possible Causes

A passenger-side air bag module fault can be caused by faulty wiring, terminals, or connectors, faulty passenger-side air bag module or faulty air bag diagnostic monitor.
- Verify condition
Place air bag system in diagnostic mode and check for Code 8. See DIAGNOSIS MODE & RETRIEVING CODES under DIAGNOSTICS. If AIR BAG warning light flashes Code 8, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light does not flash Code 8, inspect air bag system wiring harness, connectors, spices and crimps for intermittent faults. - Check for malfunctioning passenger-side air bag module
Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Clear air bag system fault codes. See CLEARING CODES under DIAGNOSTICS. Place air bag system in diagnostic mode and check for Code 8. If AIR BAG warning light flashes Code 8, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light does not flash Code 8, replace passenger-side air bag module. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reconnect and activate system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Clear air bag system fault codes. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under . - Check circuit resistances
Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 3 minutes for back-up power air bag diagnostic monitor to deplete back-up power supply. Access and disconnect air bag diagnostic monitor connector C2003A. See DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between diagnostic monitor connector C2003A, terminals No. 12 (Blue/Red wire, circuit PS05) and No. 11 (White/Red wire, circuit PS06). See Figure. If resistance is less than 8 ohms, locate and repair open or short in Blue/Red wire and/or White/Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Reconnect and activate system. Clear air bag system fault codes. Perform system operation check. If resistance is more than 8 ohms, go to next step. - Check circuit resistance to ground
Measure resistance between ground and diagnostic monitor connector terminals No. 12 (Blue/Red wire) and No. 11 (White/Red wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms on both terminals, replace air bag diagnostic monitor. Reconnect and activate system. Clear air bag system fault codes. Perform system operation check. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms on either terminal, locate and repair short to ground in Blue/Red wire and/or White/Red wire. Reconnect and activate system. Clear air bag system fault codes. Perform system operation check.
