Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK TCM SOFTWARE LEVEL 
    1. Review Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) for any applicable software updates.

      Are there any applicable software update available that addresses this condition?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To

        Refer to  3.

  2. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. With the scan tool, read all DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

  3. CHECK FOR PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID DTCS 
    1. With the scan tool, read all DTCs.

      Are Pressure Control Solenoid DTCs set?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOIDS CIRCUIT RESISTANCE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the TCM harness connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between the (T118) Solenoid Supply 2 circuit and the following Pressure Control Solenoid circuits at the TCM harness connector:
      • (T814) Pressure Control Solenoid B
      • (T816) Pressure Control Solenoid C
      • (T818) Pressure Control Solenoid D
      • (T790) Pressure Control Solenoid E
    4. Compare each resistance measurement with the Temperature vs Resistance specifications in the Pressure Control Valve table above.

      Is each resistance measurement about the same as the specified value for the given temperature?

      Yes 

      • Go To  7

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOIDS INTERNAL HARNESS RESISTANCE 
    1. Disconnect the Transmission Assembly harness connector.
    2. At the Transmission side of the Transmission Assembly harness connector, measure the resistance between the (T118) Solenoid Supply 2 circuit and the following Pressure Control Solenoid circuits:
      • (T814) Pressure Control Solenoid B
      • (T816) Pressure Control Solenoid C
      • (T818) Pressure Control Solenoid D
      • (T790) Pressure Control Solenoid E
    3. Compare each resistance measurement with the Temperature vs Resistance specifications in the Pressure Control Valve table above.

      Is each resistance measurement about the same as the specified value for the given temperature?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOIDS RESISTANCE 
    1. Rmove the Transmission Pan.
    2. Disconnect the following Pressure Control Solenoid harness connectors.
      • Pressure Control Solenoid B
      • Pressure Control Solenoid C
      • Pressure Control Solenoid D
      • Pressure Control Solenoid E
    3. Measure the resistance of each Pressure Control Solenoid.
    4. Compare each resistance measurement with the Temperature vs Resistance specifications in the Pressure Control Valve table above.

      Is each resistance measurement about the same as the specified value for the given temperature?

      Yes 

      No 

  7. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all TCM harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all TCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      NOTE:

      If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to align the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU. Follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Transmission Control Module (TCM) terminals and connectors for corrosion, damage or pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to the power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the TCM and perform programming and PROXI Configuration Alignment procedures. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), REMOVAL .
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST - 948TE 9HP48 .

      No
