Axle Assembly, Rear: Removal

NOTE:

Before proceeding. Refer to WARNING .

Place the Electric Park Brake (EPB) in maintenance mode. Refer to PARKING BRAKE, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
On each side of the vehicle, remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to REMOVAL .
On each side of the vehicle, remove the brake calipers and adapter brackets as an assembly, using a suitable device, support the disc brake caliper. Refer to ADAPTER, DISC BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVAL . Do not let the disc brake caliper hang by the brake hose.

On each side of the vehicle, remove the ABS wheel speed sensor head mounting bolt (1).
On each side of the vehicle, remove the wheel speed sensors from the spindles.

On each side of the vehicle, remove the brake hose bracket bolt (1).
Position a suitable jack under the center of the axle and raise it enough to support the axle.

On each side of the vehicle, remove the stabilizer bar link to axle nut (3) and detach the stabilizer bar link (2) from the axle, if equipped.
On each side of the vehicle, remove the spindles. Refer to SPINDLE, REAR, REMOVAL .

On each side of the vehicle, remove the shock absorber lower bolt (2), then disengage the shock absorber from the axle.
Remove the U-bolt nuts (1) and the washers.
Lower the jack and remove the axle from the vehicle.
