Axle Assembly, Rear: Removal
NOTE:
Before proceeding. Refer to WARNING .
- Place the Electric Park Brake (EPB) in maintenance mode. Refer to PARKING BRAKE, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- On each side of the vehicle, remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to REMOVAL .
- On each side of the vehicle, remove the brake calipers and adapter brackets as an assembly, using a suitable device, support the disc brake caliper. Refer to ADAPTER, DISC BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVAL
. Do not let the disc brake caliper hang by the brake hose.
- On each side of the vehicle, remove the ABS wheel speed sensor head mounting bolt (1).
- On each side of the vehicle, remove the wheel speed sensors from the spindles.
- On each side of the vehicle, remove the brake hose bracket bolt (1).
- Position a suitable jack under the center of the axle and raise it enough to support the axle.
- On each side of the vehicle, remove the stabilizer bar link to axle nut (3) and detach the stabilizer bar link (2) from the axle, if equipped.
- On each side of the vehicle, remove the spindles. Refer to SPINDLE, REAR, REMOVAL .
- On each side of the vehicle, remove the shock absorber lower bolt (2), then disengage the shock absorber from the axle.
- Remove the U-bolt nuts (1) and the washers.
- Lower the jack and remove the axle from the vehicle.
