Line, A/C Suction: Installation

CAUTION:

Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE:

When replacing multiple A/C system components, see the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - REFRIGERANT OIL LEVEL .

NOTE:

Replacement of the refrigerant line seals and gaskets is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals, metal gaskets or washer seals may result in a refrigerant system leak.

  1. Position the A/C suction line into the engine compartment.

  2. Engage the A/C suction line to the lower retaining clips (1).

  3. Engage the A/C suction line to the upper retaining clip (1).

  4. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings and the expansion valve ports (3).
  5. Lubricate new seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the opened refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified seals as they are made of a special material for the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  6. Install the A/C liquid line (2) into the suction line tapping block.
  7. Connect the A/C suction and liquid lines (1) to the A/C expansion valve.

  8. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C pressure transducer.
  9. Install the nut (1) that secures the A/C suction and liquid lines to the A/C expansion valve (2) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  10. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports.
  11. Lubricate new seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the opened refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified seals as they are made of a special material for the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  12. Install the A/C suction line (2) onto the A/C compressor.
  13. Install the nut (1) that secures the A/C suction line to the A/C compressor and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  14. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION .
  15. Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, INSTALLATION .
  16. Install the fresh air inlet. Refer to INLET, FRESH AIR, INSTALLATION .
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18. Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to REFRIGERANT SYSTEM EVACUATE .
  19. Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - REFRIGERANT OIL LEVEL .
  20. Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to REFRIGERANT SYSTEM CHARGE .
