Upper Intake Manifold

NOTE:

Prior to installing the upper intake manifold, verify that the four fuel rail bolts were not inadvertently loosened. Refer to RAIL, FUEL, INSTALLATION .

NOTE:

Make sure the fuel injectors and wiring harnesses are in the correct position so that they don't interfere with the upper intake manifold installation.

  1. Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces (1) and if required install NEW  upper to lower intake manifold seals (2).
  2. If removed install the throttle body and tighten the throttle body bolts to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. If removed install the EGR valve and tighten the EGR valve bolts to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS - EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION .

  4. Position the upper intake manifold onto the lower intake manifold so that the two locating posts on the upper intake manifold align with corresponding holes in the lower intake manifold.

  5. Using the tightening sequence shown, tighten the upper intake manifold bolts to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Connect the throttle body wiring harness connector and attach the wire harness retainer.

  7. Install the front support bracket bolts (2) that secure intake manifold and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Install the rear support bracket (5) and tighten the bolt (6) and nut (4) to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Attach the wiring harness retainer to the rear support bracket (5).
  10. Install the EGR tube. Refer to TUBE, EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR), CROSSOVER, INSTALLATION .

  11. Connect the EGR temperature sensor wiring harness connector (1) and attach the wire harness retainer.
  12. Install the radiator crossmember. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, RADIATOR, INSTALLATION .

  13. Install the bolt (2) securing evaporative hoses (1) to the intake manifold and engage clip (3).

  14. Connect the MAP sensor wire harness connector (5) and install the wire harness retainer (4) to the intake manifold.
  15. Connect the PCV valve quick-connect fitting (3).
  16. Install the clip (1) securing the wiring harness to the intake manifold.
  17. Install the purge solenoid. Refer to SOLENOID, EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS PURGE, INSTALLATION .
  18. Install the air cleaner resonator. Refer to RESONATOR, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION .
