Gearshift Cable - Instrument Panel Mount Removal

Check adjustment by starting the engine in PARK and NEUTRAL. Adjustment is CORRECT if the engine starts only in these positions. Adjustment is INCORRECT if the engine starts in one but not both positions. If the engine starts in any position other than PARK or NEUTRAL, or if the engine will not start at all, the park/neutral position contact may be faulty.
- Place the shifter in PARK
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE

- Remove the gearshift cable retaining clip (4) (if equipped).
- Disconnect the gearshift cable (1) from the shift lever (3), and remove cable from bracket (2).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the instrument panel bezel. Refer to BEZEL, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, REMOVAL .
- Remove the steering column opening cover. Refer to COVER, STEERING COLUMN OPENING, REMOVAL

- Disconnect the gearshift cable end (1) from the shifter assembly, pull the gearshift cable bracket lock (2) outward and remove the gearshift cable from the shifter assembly bracket (3).
- Remove the gearshift cable grommet (3) from the opening in the dash panel (4), and remove the gearshift cable.
