Cylinder Head: Removal

- Disconnect and isolate both of the negative battery cables.
- Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Disconnect the heater core supply and return hoses from the cylinder head and heater pipe.
- Remove the cooling fan/drive/shroud assembly. Refer to FAN, COOLING, VISCOUS, REMOVAL .
- Remove the cooling fan support from the engine block.
- Remove the generator. Refer to GENERATOR, REMOVAL .
- Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
- Disconnect the Intake TManifold Air Pressure (TMAP) sensor wire harness connector (3).
- If equipped, remove bolts (2) and the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor shield (1).
- Disconnect the ECT sensor wire harness connector (1).
- Remove the fasteners securing the oil dip stick tube.
- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the three bolts attaching the air intake heater wire harness to the front of the cylinder head.
- Remove the nut and the air intake heater wire harness.
- Remove the fuel rail. Refer to RAIL, FUEL, REMOVAL .
- Remove the cylinder head cover, rocker housing, and gasket. Refer to COVER(S), CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVAL, 6.7L .
- Remove the bolts (1), rocker arms (2), pedestals (3), and cross heads (4). Mark each component so they can be installed in their original positions.NOTE:
The cowl panel provided access holes to allow the removal of the cylinder 5 exhaust and cylinder 6 intake and exhaust push rods. Remove the rubber plugs in the cowl to expose the access holes.
- Remove the push rods (1) and note the order in which they were removed.
- Remove the fuel injectors. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Starting on the outside and working towards the center, remove the 26 cylinder head bolts.
- Attach an engine lift crane to engine lift brackets and lift cylinder head off engine and out of vehicle.
- Remove the head gasket.
