Removal And Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 RAM 3500 HD and 2019 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

REMOVAL

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
  2. Disable and remove the driver's side airbag. Refer to AIR BAG, DRIVER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Disconnect the steering wheel wire harness connectors (1).
  4. If equipped, disconnect the heated steering wheel wire harness connectors.
  5. Remove and DISCARD  the steering wheel bolt (2), and retain the damper if equipped.
  6. Remove the steering wheel.
  7. Remove the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) switch. Refer to SWITCH, EVIC CONTROL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  8. Remove the remote radio switches. Refer to SWITCH, REMOTE RADIO, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  9. If equipped, disconnect the heated steering wheel wire harness connectors and remove the steering wheel wire harness.

INSTALLATION

  1. If equipped, connect the heated steering wheel wire harness connectors and secure the steering wheel wire harness.
  2. Install the remote radio switches. Refer to SWITCH, REMOTE RADIO, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Install the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) switch. Refer to SWITCH, EVIC CONTROL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Install the steering wheel to the steering column.
  5. If equipped, position the damper to the steering wheel, then install a NEW  steering wheel bolt (2) and tighten the nut to the proper torque specifications. Refer to COLUMN, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Connect the two steering wheel wire harness connector (1).
  7. Install the driver's side air bag. Refer to AIR BAG, DRIVER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  8. Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
