Test 6A: Left SIACM, Curtain Squib Circuit Short To Battery (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed. This procedure applies to Sebring, Stratus sedan models only.
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove right and left C-pillar trim panels. Remove rear shelf trim panel. Disconnect left curtain air bag module connector. Connect SRS Load Tool (8443) and appropriate jumper to harness side of left curtain air bag connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Read left SIACM DTCs. If DRB displays LEFT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step. If DRB does not display LEFT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, replace left curtain air bag module. See CURTAIN (HEAD IMPACT) AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect left SIACM connector. See SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (SIACM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS load tool adapter to left SIACM harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and Light Blue-Brown wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is present, repair short to battery in left curtain squib circuit Light Blue-Brown wire. If voltage is not present, go to next step.
  3. Measure voltage between ground and Light Blue-Orange wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is present, repair short to battery in left curtain squib circuit Light Blue-Orange wire. If voltage is not present and no other malfunctions are detected, replace left side impact air bag module.
