Test 5A: Left SIACM, Curtain Squib Circuit Short (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed. This procedure applies to Sebring, Stratus sedan models only.
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove right and left C-pillar trim panels. Remove rear shelf trim panel. Disconnect left curtain air bag module connector. Connect SRS Load Tool (8443) and appropriate jumper to harness side of left curtain air bag connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Read left SIACM DTCs. If DRB displays LEFT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT, go to next step. If DRB does not display LEFT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT, replace left curtain air bag module. See CURTAIN (HEAD IMPACT) AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait at least 2 minutes. Connect SRS load tool adapter to harness side of left curtain air bag module connector. Measure resistance between Light Blue-Orange wire and Light Blue-Brown wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short in wiring harness between left side curtain squib Light Blue-Orange and Light Blue-Brown wires. If resistance is more than 5 ohms and no other malfunctions are detected, replace left side impact air bag module.
