Test 3A: Orc, Loss Of Ignition Run-Start (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove air bag run-start fuse No. 17 and check condition of fuse. See Figure . If fuse is bad, go to next step. If fuse is good, go to step  5 .
  2. Measure resistance between ground and ORC side of air bag run-start fuse No. 17 fuse holder (Light Green-Yellow wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace air bag run-start fuse. If resistance is less than 5 ohms on sedan model, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms on convertible model, go to step  4 .
  3. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. While monitoring resistance between ground and ORC side of air bag run-start fuse No. 17 fuse holder (Light Green-Yellow wire), access and disconnect ORC connector, left SIACM connector and right SIACM connector one by one. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  and SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (SIACM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance measurement changes to 5 ohms or more after disconnecting any control module, replace disconnected control module that caused resistance to change. If resistance measures below 5 ohms after disconnecting all control modules, repair short to ground in air bag run circuit Light Green-Yellow wire.
  4. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. While monitoring resistance between ground and ORC side of air bag run-start fuse No. 17 fuse holder (Light Green-Yellow wire), access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance measurement changes to 5 ohms or more after disconnecting ORC connector, replace ORC. If resistance measures below 5 ohms after disconnecting ORC connector, repair short to ground in air bag run circuit Light Green-Yellow wire.
  5. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and battery side of air bag run-start fuse No. 17 fuse holder. If voltage is less than 4 volts, repair open or high resistance in air bag run-start fuse No. 17 circuit between battery and fuse holder. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is more than 4 volts, go to next step.
  6. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Install air bag run fuse No. 17. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery terminal. Measure voltage between ground and ORC connector terminal No. 14. (Light Green-Yellow wire). See Figure . If voltage is less than 4 volts, repair open or high resistance in air bag run circuit Light Green-Yellow wire. If voltage is more than 4 volts, and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ORC.
