Test 35A: Orc, Passenger Squib 1 Circuit Short (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect dual-stage passenger-side air bag module connector located above glove box. Connect SRS Load Tool (8443) to harness side of dual-stage passenger-side air bag module connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays PASSENGER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT, go to next step. If DRB does not display PASSENGER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT, replace passenger-side air bag module. See DUAL-STAGE PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS load tool ORC adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Measure resistance between passenger-side air bag module connector terminals No. 1 (Black-Yellow wire) and No. 2 (Dark Green-Yellow wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short in wiring harness between Black-Yellow and Dark Green-Yellow wires. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is more than 5 ohms and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ORC.
