Test 2A: Orc, Loss Of Ignition Run Only (Active Code)
NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove air bag run fuse No. 16 and check condition of fuse. See Fig 1 . If fuse is bad, go to next step. If fuse is good, go to step 4 .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure air bag run fuse No. 16 is removed. Measure resistance between ground and ORC connector terminal No. 15. (Dark Blue-Yellow wire). See Fig 2 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in air bag run circuit Dark Blue-Yellow wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Connect ORC connector. Install NEW air bag run fuse No. 16. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Inspect air bag run fuse No. 16. If fuse has blown, replace ORC. If fuse is good, system is operating normally at this time. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and battery side of air bag run fuse No. 16 fuse holder. If voltage is less than 4 volts, repair open or high resistance in air bag run circuit between battery and fuse holder. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is more than 4 volts, go to next step.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Install air bag run fuse No. 16. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery terminal. Measure voltage between ground and ORC connector terminal No. 15. (Dark Blue-Yellow wire). See Fig 2 . If voltage is less than 4 volts, repair open or high resistance in air bag run circuit Dark Blue-Yellow wire. If voltage is more than 4 volts, and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ORC.
