Test 20A: Orc, Driver Squib 2 Circuit Short To Battery (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove dual-stage driver-side air bag module. See DUAL-STAGE DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS Load Tool (8443) and appropriate jumper to clockspring side of clockspring-to-air bag module connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays DRIVER SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step. If DRB does not display DRIVER SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, replace dual-stage driver-side air bag module.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect clockspring lower connector. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS load tool and appropriate jumper to harness side of clockspring lower connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays DRIVER SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step. If DRB does not display DRIVER SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, replace clockspring.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS load tool ORC adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and Orange-Light Blue wire on harness side of clockspring lower connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is less than 0.5 volt, go to next step. If voltage is more than 0.5 volt, repair short to battery in Orange-Light Blue wire.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and Tan-Light Blue wire on harness side of clockspring lower connector. If voltage is less than 0.5 volt and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ORC. If voltage is more than 0.5 volt, repair short to battery in Tan-Light Blue wire.
