Test 15A: Orc, Driver Squib 1 Circuit Short (Active Code)
NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove dual-stage driver-side air bag module. See DUAL-STAGE DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS Load Tool (8443) and appropriate jumper to clockspring side of clockspring-to-air bag module connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT, go to next step. If DRB does not display DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT, replace dual-stage driver-side air bag module.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect clockspring lower connector. See CLOCKSPRING under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS load tool and appropriate jumper to harness side of clockspring lower connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT, go to next step. If DRB does not display DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT, replace clockspring.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS load tool ORC adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Measure resistance between Black-Light Blue and Dark Green-Light Blue wires on harness side of clockspring lower connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Black-Light Blue and Dark Green-Light Blue wires. If resistance is more than 5 ohms and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ORC.
