Test Procedure
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, read BCM DTCs. If fault messages MODE DOOR INPUT OPEN/STG and BLEND DOOR INPUT OPEN/STG are displayed, go to step 7. If specified fault messages are not displayed, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect HVAC control panel C1 connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using test light connected to ground, probe HVAC control panel C1 connector terminal No. 7 (Red/White wire). See Figure. If test light is illuminated, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Red/White wire between junction block and splice 210, or between splice 210 and harness connectors for autostick switch (if equipped), instrument cluster, HVAC control panel and Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair is complete, go to step 10.
NOTE:
Splice 210 is located in main wiring harness a few inches left of instrument cluster support brace, above steering column. See Figure.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect BCM C2 connector. Measure resistance between ground and HVAC control panel C1 connector terminal No. 6 (Red/Tan wire). See Figure. If reading is 10 k/ohms or more, go to next step. If reading is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Red/Tan wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair is complete, go to step 10.
- Measure resistance between HVAC control panel C1 connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue/Gray wire) and terminal No. 6 (Red/Tan wire). See Figure. If reading is 10 k/ohms or more, go to next step. If reading is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short between Dark Blue/Gray wire and Red/Tan wire between HVAC control panel C1 connector and BCM C2 connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair is complete, go to step 10.
- Measure resistance of Red/Tan wire between HVAC control panel C1 connector terminal No. 6 and BCM C2 connector terminal No. 23. See Figure and Figure
. If reading is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Red/Tan wire between HVAC control panel C1 and BCM C2 wiring harness connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair is complete, go to step 10.
- Connect HVAC control panel C1 connector. Connect BCM C2 connector. Place mode select switch to recirculation/bi-level position. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect DVOM between ground and backprobe BCM C2 connector terminal No. 23 (Red/Tan wire). See Figure. While monitor voltage reading, move mode selector switch from recirculation position to defogger position. If reading changes smoothly from about 8.8 volts, to about 11.7 volts in defogger position, replace BCM. If reading does not change smoothly, or does not read between about 8.8-11.7 volts, replace HVAC control panel. After repair is complete, go to step 10.
- Check junction block fuse No. 11 (10-amp) for an open. Remove fuse and check for continuity to ground at Red/White wire cavity of fuse No. 11. If continuity to ground exists, go to next step. If continuity to ground does not exist, replace fuse No. 11 (10-amp). Using scan tool, clear BCM DTCs. Cycle ignition switch off, then on. Check system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect BCM from junction block. Disconnect junction block connectors C2 and C7. See Figure. Check for continuity to ground at cavities for fuse No. 11. If continuity to ground exists, replace junction block. If continuity to ground does not exist, go to next step.
- Locate and repair short to ground in Red/White wire, between junction block and splice 210, and between splice 210 and connectors for autostick switch (if equipped), instrument cluster, HVAC control panel and Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair is complete, go to next step.
- After repair is complete, perform calibration test. See CALIBRATION TEST - HVAC DOOR MOTORS under ADJUSTMENTS. Perform verification test. See BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 under VERIFICATION TESTS.
