Test Procedure

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select SENSORS, then EVAP TEMP. If value reads less than 5.0 volts, go to next step. If value is 5.0 volts or more, go to step  7.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect evaporator temperature sensor harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and evaporator temperature sensor signal terminal (Light Green/Black wire) of harness connector. If reading is less than 5.1 volts, go to next step. If reading is 5.1 volts or more, locate and repair short to voltage in Light Green/Black wire between evaporator temperature sensor and BCM C2 connector terminal No. 9. After repair, go to step  11.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect a jumper wire between terminals of evaporator temperature sensor harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select SENSORS, then EVAP TEMP. If value reads EVAP TEMP: 4.9 VOLTS or more, go to next step. If value reads less than EVAP TEMP: 4.9 VOLTS, replace evaporator temperature sensor. After repair, go to step  11.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect BCM C2 connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance in Light Green/Black wire between evaporator temperature sensor connector and BCM C2 connector terminal No. 9. If reading is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Green/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step  11.
  5. Measure resistance in Dark Blue/Gray wire between evaporator temperature sensor connector and BCM C2 connector terminal No. 10. If reading is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in evaporator temperature sensor ground circuit (Dark Blue/Gray wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step  11.
  6. Replace and program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repair, go to step  11.
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect evaporator temperature sensor harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select SENSORS, then EVAP TEMP. If value reads EVAP TEMP: 4.9 VOLTS or more, go to next step. If value reads less than EVAP TEMP: 4.9 VOLTS, go to step  9.
  8. Remove evaporator temperature sensor from HVAC housing. Place evaporator temperature sensor probe next to pocket thermometer, wait about 5 minutes. Measure resistance between terminals of evaporator temperature sensor and compare with specified readings. See EVAP TEMP SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If resistance reading is within specification, inspect wiring harnesses and connectors for possible cause of intermittent short or open condition. Repair any faulty conditions as necessary. If resistance readings are not as specified, replace evaporator temperature sensor. After repair, go to step  11.
    EVAP TEMP SENSOR RESISTANCE

  9. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect BCM C2 connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and BCM C2 connector terminal No. 9 (Light Green/Black wire). If reading is 1000 ohms or more, go to next step. If reading is less than 1000 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green/Black wire, between evaporator temperature sensor and BCM C2 connector terminal No. 9. After repair, go to step  11.
  10. Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminals of evaporator temperature sensor harness connector. If reading is 1000 ohms or more, go to step  6. If reading is less than 1000 ohms, repair short between evaporator temperature sensor signal circuit (Light Green/Black wire) and sensor ground circuit (Dark Blue/Gray wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to next step.
  11. After repair is complete, perform calibration test. See CALIBRATION TEST - HVAC DOOR MOTORS  under ADJUSTMENTS. Perform verification test. See BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER-1  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
