Test Procedure

  1. Start engine. Using scan tool, erase BCM DTCs. Turn blower switch to low setting. Place temperature control switch to full heat for 30 seconds, then full cold for 30 seconds, then back to full heat for 30 seconds. Place mode selector switch in each position, pausing for 20 seconds in each detent position. Place mode selector switch in defogger position for 20 seconds, then recirculation position for 20 seconds, then back to defogger position for 20 seconds. Using scan tool, read BCM DTCs. If scan tool displays BLEND DOOR OUTPUT SHORTED TO BATTERY, go to next step. If BLEND DOOR OUTPUT SHORTED TO BATTERY does not appear in scan tool display, go to step  6.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect in-line C200 harness connector located behind dash, above accelerator pedal. Disconnect BCM C2 connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and in-line C200 connector (BCM side) terminal No. 3 (Dark Blue/Red wire). See Figure. If reading is less than 1 volt, go to next step. If reading is 1 volt or more, repair short to voltage in Dark Blue/Red wire, between BCM C2 connector terminal No. 25, through in-line C200 connector terminal No. 3, to blend door actuator connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step  7.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance of between BCM C2 connector terminal No. 25 (Dark Blue/Red wire) and each of the following BCM C2 connector terminals, No. 15 (Dark Blue/White wire), No. 24 (Gray/Dark Blue wire) and No. 26 (Dark Green/Yellow wire). See Figure. If reading is 100 ohms or more, go to next step. If reading is less than 100 ohms, repair short between affected door driver circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step  7.
  4. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Connect BCM C2 connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and in-line C200 connector (BCM side) terminal No. 3 (Dark Blue/Red wire). See Figure. If reading is less than one volt, go to next step. If reading is one volt or more, replace and program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repair, go to step  7.
  5. Disconnect blend door actuator connector. Inspect blend door actuator and in-line C200 connector for any indication of a short, or of a short to other circuits. Repair any faulty condition found as necessary, then attempt to duplicate DTC. If no indication of a short between connector circuits is found, replace blend door actuator. After repair, go to step  7.
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Visually inspect related wiring harness, connectors and components. Check for damaged or chafed wiring, damaged or broken connectors and/or components. Check for Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) from manufacturer that may apply. Repair any faulty condition found as necessary. After repair, go to next step. If no faults are found, test is complete.
  7. After repair is complete, perform calibration test. See CALIBRATION TEST - HVAC DOOR MOTORS  under ADJUSTMENTS. Perform verification test. See BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER-1  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
