Test Procedure

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, read BCM DTCs. If fault messages MODE DOOR INPUT OPEN/STG and BLEND DOOR INPUT OPEN/STG are displayed, go to step  7. If specified fault messages are not displayed, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect HVAC control panel C1 connector. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using test light connected to ground, probe HVAC control panel C1 connector terminal No. 7 (Red/White wire). If test light is illuminated, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Red/White wire between junction block and splice 210, and/or between splice 210 and harness connectors for autostick switch (if equipped), instrument cluster, HVAC control panel and Data Link Connector (DLC). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step  10.
    NOTE: Splice 210 is located in wiring harness under instrument panel, a few inches left of instrument cluster support brace, above steering column. See Fig 1.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect BCM C2 connector. Measure resistance between ground and HVAC control panel C1 connector terminal No. 8 (Yellow/Orange wire). See Figure. If reading is 10 k/ohms or more, go to next step. If reading is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow/Orange wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step  10.
  4. Measure resistance between HVAC control panel C1 connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue/Gray wire) and terminal No. 8 (Yellow/Orange wire). See Figure. If reading is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short between Dark Blue/Gray wire and Yellow/Orange wire between HVAC control panel C1 and BCM C2 connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step  10. If reading is 10 k/ohms or more, go to next step.
  5. Measure resistance of Yellow/Orange wire between HVAC control panel C1 connector terminal No. 8 and BCM C2 connector. See Figure and Figure . If reading is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Orange wire between HVAC control panel and BCM connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step  10.
  6. Connect HVAC control panel C1 connector. Place temperature control switch to full cold setting. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and BCM C2 connector terminal No. 14 (Yellow/Orange wire). See Figure. Monitor voltage reading, while moving temperature control switch from full cold setting to full heat setting. If reading changes smoothly from about 9 volts in full cold, to about 11.9 volts in full heat position, replace BCM. If reading does not change smoothly, or does not read between 9.0-11.9 volts, replace HVAC control panel. After repair, go to step  10.
  7. Check junction block fuse No. 11 (10-amp) for an open. Remove fuse No. 11 (10-amp) and check for continuity to ground at fused ignition switch output circuit (Red/White wire) cavity of fuse No. 11. If continuity to ground exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace fuse No. 11 (10-amp). Using scan tool, clear BCM DTCs. Cycle ignition switch off, then on. Check system for normal operation.
  8. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove BCM mounting screws and remove BCM from junction block. Disconnect junction block harness connectors C2 and C7. See Fig 2. Check for continuity to ground at cavities for fuse No. 11. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity to ground exists at either cavity, replace junction block. After repair, go to step  10.
  9. Locate and repair short to ground in Red/White wire, between junction block connector C7 and splice 210, or between splice 210 and connectors for autostick switch (if equipped), instrument cluster, HVAC control panel and Data Link Connector (DLC). See Fig 1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair is complete, go to next step.
  10. After repair is complete, perform calibration test. See CALIBRATION TEST - HVAC DOOR MOTORS  under ADJUSTMENTS. Perform verification test. See BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER-1  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
