Begin diagnosis by confirming customer complaint. Once complaint is confirmed, attempt to retrieve and identify DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  . If DTCs are retrieved, perform diagnostic test as directed. See DIAGNOSTIC TESTS  . If no DTCs are present, and complaint still exists, diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM TESTS  .

After diagnosis and repair, clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  . To aid in diagnosis or to confirm individual circuit operation, use scan tool to monitor parameters of individual circuits. See SCAN TOOL DATA  .
