Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Using scan tool, check TP sensor data values. See SCAN TOOL DATA  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Note scan tool data values, then go to next step.
  2. Test TP sensor. See THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR  under COMPONENT TESTS. Perform TEST F: SHOCK OR LAG TIME WHEN SHIFTING FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE  under SYMPTOM TESTS. Replace TP sensor if necessary. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If TP sensor tests okay, go to next step.
  3. Check electrical connections and wiring between TP sensor and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If no problems are found, replace PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
