Test 28A: Right SIACM, Seat Squib Short To Ground (Active Code)
NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove right front seat back cover and reposition seat back cushion material to access seat air bag module connector. Disconnect right side air bag module connector. Connect SRS Load Tool (8310) Brown cable and appropriate jumper to harness side of right side air bag connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Read right side air bag DTCs. If DRB displays RIGHT SEAT SQUIB SHORTED TO GROUND, go to next step. If DRB does not display RIGHT SEAT SQUIB SHORTED TO GROUND, replace right side air bag module. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect right SIACM connector. See SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (SIACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS Load Tool (8310) SIACM adapter to right SIACM electrical connector. Measure resistance between ground and SIACM connector terminal No. 3 (Light Blue-Orange wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in right side seat squib Light Blue-Orange wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between ground and SIACM connector terminal No. 4 (Light Blue-White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in right side seat squib Light Blue-White wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, and no other malfunctions are found, replace right side impact air bag control module.
