Test 12A: Orc, Driver Squib 1 Circuit Short To Ground (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove driver-side air bag module. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS Load Tool (8310) Brown cable and appropriate jumper to clockspring side of clockspring-to-air bag module connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If DRB does not display DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, replace driver-side air bag module.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect clockspring lower connector. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS Load Tool (8310) Black cable and appropriate jumper to harness side of clockspring lower connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If DRB does not display DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, replace clockspring.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS Load Tool (8310) ORC adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Measure resistance of Black-Light Blue wire between ground and harness side of clockspring lower connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black-Light Blue wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Measure resistance of Dark Green-Light Blue wire between ground and harness side of clockspring lower connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green-Light Blue wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ORC.
