Removal Procedure

  1. Ignition Coil - Remove - Ignition Coil Replacement
  2. Vacuum Pump - Remove - Vacuum Pump Replacement
  3. Turbocharger Heat Shield - Remove - Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement 
  4. NOTE:

    The air cleaner outlet duct is equipped with a tamper proof connection that should NOT be removed unless the PCV tube or air cleaner outlet duct is being replaced. Loosening the air cleaner outlet duct clamps will allow the duct to be disconnected from the air cleaner assembly and turbocharger for repositioning without removing the tamper proof connection.

  5. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp - Loosen - Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (Non-Tamperproof) , or Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (Tamperproof)

    NOTE:

    The PCV hose and fitting assembly (2) is a permanent connection. Reinstall these components as an assembly unless new components are being used.

    NOTE:

    Always ensure the PCV hose fitting O-Ring (3) seal is free of cuts or abrasions each time the fitting is attached to the turbocharger.

    Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose Fitting Bolt (1) - Remove

  7. Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose Fitting (2) - Disconnect
  8. Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe - Remove - Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Replacement (LTG)
  9. Oil Level Indicator - Remove

    Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe (3) - Remove - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LTG)

  11. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Intake - Remove - Camshaft Position Actuator Intake Solenoid Valve Replacement
  12. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Exhaust - Remove - Camshaft Position Actuator Exhaust Solenoid Valve Replacement
  13. Camshaft Cover Heat Shield - Remove - Camshaft Cover Heat Shield Replacement

    NOTE:

    The fuel feed pipe is one time use and must be replaced if the fitting is loosened. Remove only the fuel pipe bolt, DO NOT loosen or bend the fuel feed pipe.

    Fuel Feed Pipe Bolt (1) - Remove - Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (At Fuel Injection Pump) , or Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (Engine to Tank)

    NOTE:

    Note the location of the four long camshaft cover bolts (2) for proper installation.

    NOTE:

    If reinstalling the camshaft cover (3), remove the camshaft cover with the PCV tubes and the air cleaner outlet duct.

    Camshaft Cover Bolt (1) - Remove [19x]

  16. Camshaft Cover Bolt (2) - Remove [4x]

    NOTE:

    The fuel feed pipe (3) is one time use. Do not loosen or bend pipe. If the pipe fitting is loosened or bent it must be replaced.

    Lift the camshaft cover (1) until the locating pin (2) is released from the cylinder head.

  18. With the locating pin unseated from the cylinder head, carefully tip the camshaft cover in the direction of the arrow then remove the camshaft cover from the cylinder head.

    Camshaft Cover Gasket (1) - Remove and DISCARD

  20. If reinstalling the camshaft cover (2), clean and inspect as needed. Camshaft Cover and Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger Cleaning and Inspection
