Removal Procedure

Equivalent regional tools: Special Tools 

  1. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LCV, LGX) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 LCV, LGX)
  2. Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement

    Intake Manifold (3) - Remove - Intake Manifold Replacement 

  4. Exhaust Manifold - Remove - Exhaust Manifold Replacement (LCV)

    Engine Front Cover (1) - Remove - Engine Front Cover Replacement 

  6. Remove the timing chain and tensioner. Camshaft Timing Chain and Tensioner Replacement 
  7. Remove the intake and exhaust camshaft, bearing cap, and lash adjusters. Intake and Exhaust Camshaft, Bearing Cap, and Lash Adjuster Removal 
  8. Fuel Pump - Remove - Fuel Pump Replacement
  9. Disconnect the intake camshaft position sensor. Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Intake
  10. Disconnect the exhaust camshaft position sensor. Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Exhaust

    Water Outlet (1) - Remove - Water Outlet Replacement (LCV)

  12. Fuel Injection Fuel Rail - Remove - Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement

    Install the J-36857  Engine Lift Bracket (2) and fastener (1) into the engine block.

  14. NOTE:

    Support the engine as necessary from underneath while repositioning the engine support fixture.

  15. Reposition the engine support fixture lift hook from the engine lift bracket (3) to the J-36857  Engine Lift Bracket (2)

    Engine Wiring Harness Ground Bolt (1) - Remove

  17. Engine Wiring Harness (2) @ Cylinder Head - Remove
  18. Cylinder Head - Remove - Cylinder Head Removal 
  19. Disassemble the cylinder head. Cylinder Head Disassemble 
  20. Clean and inspect the cylinder head. Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection
