Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 GMC Savana 3500, 2019 GMC Savana 2500, 2019 Chevrolet Express 3500, and 2019 Chevrolet Express 2500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. With the aid of an assistant, rotate and raise the engine into the vehicle while maintaining proper clearance of the following.
    • Frame
    • Vacuum lines
    • Oil cooler lines
    • Wiring harness
    • Coolant pipes and hoses

    NOTE:

    Install the left side engine mount and bracket temporarily to secure engine as it will be removed and reinstalled during transmission installation.

    Engine Mount Bracket-Left Side(2) - Install - Engine Mount Bracket Replacement - Left Side 

  3. Engine Mount-Right Side(2) - Install - Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side 
  4. Engine Support Fixture - Remove - Engine Support Fixture 
  5. Engine Coolant Fan Bracket - Install - Engine Cooling Fan Bracket Replacement 
  6. Transmission - Install - Transmission Replacement (With LV1 Engine) , or Transmission Replacement (With LWN Engine)
  7. Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Outlet Hose - Install - Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Outlet Hose Replacement (With LWN) , or Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Outlet Hose Replacement (Without LWN)
  8. Fuel Pump Fuel Feed Hose - Install - Fuel Pump Fuel Feed Hose Replacement
  9. Fuel Pump Fuel Return Hose - Install - Fuel Pump Fuel Return Hose Replacement

    Battery Negative Cable(1) @ Engine Block - Install - Battery Negative Cable Replacement (L96, LC8) , or Battery Negative Cable Replacement (LWN) , or Battery Negative Cable Replacement (LV1)

    Electrical Connector(1) - Connect

    Electrical Connector(2) - Connect

  13. Reposition the electrical connector sleeve (1).
  14. Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe - Install - Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement (M5U) , or Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement (MYD)

    Water Pump Inlet Pipe(3) - Install - Water Pump Inlet Pipe Replacement (LWN)

    Generator Bracket(3) - Install - Generator Bracket Replacement (Diesel)

  17. Attach the wiring harness and connect the electrical connectors as necessary.
  18. Intake Manifold - Install - Intake Manifold Replacement 
  19. Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket - Install - Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Replacement (LWN) , or Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Replacement (L96, LC8) , or Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Replacement (LV1)

    Reposition the wiring harness (2) as needed then install the ground cable bolts (1), refer to cylinder head replacement for torque. Cylinder Head Replacement

    Radiator Inlet Hose (2) - Install - Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LWN) , or Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LV1) , or Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (L96, LC8)

    Radiator Outlet Hose(2) - Install - Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LWN) , or Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LV1) , or Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (L96, LC8)

    Oil Filter Assembly(6) - Install - Oil Filter Assembly Replacement

    Exhaust Manifold and Turbocharger Assembly(2) - Install - Exhaust Manifold Replacement (LWN)

  25. Connect remaining electrical connectors, hoses and vacuum lines as necessary.
  26. Heater Inlet and Outlet Pipe - Install - Heater Inlet And Outlet Pipe Replacement (LWN with K08) , or Heater Inlet And Outlet Pipe Replacement (LWN without K08)

    NOTE:

    Cover the oil filler tube opening to prevent dirty and debris from entering.

    Oil Filler Tube(4) - Install - Oil Filler Tube Replacement 

  28. Fill the cooling system to the proper level. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LWN) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 LWN) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LC8, LV1, L96) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE47716 LC8, LV1, L96)
    29. NOTE:

    Prelube is necessary if the engine is replaced or overhauled.

  29. If the engine is replaced with a new engine or has been overhauled, perform the engine pre-lube procedure. Engine Prelubing 
  30. If reinstalling the engine, perform complete an engine oil change as needed. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
