J 45299 Engine Preluber
- A constant/continuous flow of clean engine oil is required to properly prime the engine. Be sure to use an approved engine oil as specified in the owners manual.
- Filter must be fitted in housing before filling with oil.
- Remove the engine oil filter cap, and refit the oil filter back into the filter housing. Fill the filter housing with clean engine oil, and reinstall. Tighten the oil filter cap to 24 N. m (18 lb ft).
- NOTE:
This should be done anytime the engine sits for an extended period of time.
Remove the engine front cover hole plug (1).
- Fill the plug orifice with engine oil until level with bottom of plug hole. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
- Apply sealant to the oil pump cover bypass hole plug, refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .
Install the engine front cover hole plug (1) and tighten to 40 N. m (30 lb ft).
- Remove the oil pressure sensor.
- Install the M12 x 1. 75 adapter P/N 509376.
Install the flexible hose to the adapter and open the valve.
- Pump the handle on J 45299 preluber to flow a minimum of 1 - 2 quarts of engine oil. Observe the flow of engine oil through the flexible hose and into the engine assembly.
- Close the valve and remove the flexible hose and adapter from the engine.
- Install the oil pressure sensor and tighten to 14 N. m (124 lb in).
- Top off the engine oil to the proper level.
- Once engine is installed into vehicle, perform these steps:
- Ensure the vehicle battery has a full charge.
- When starting the car after priming, it is forbidden to crank engine if it does not start suddenly; in this case would be better to check the oil pump pre-lubing (repeat the prelubing procedure).
- Once engine has started, bring the engine speed to 1500 RPM instead of idling, in order to facilitate lubrication of camshaft bearings.
CAUTION:
If any malfunction is experienced which may cause debris to enter the oil supply, you must replace the engine oil cooler and hoses if equipped. Debris in the engine oil cooler and oil cooler hoses may be pulled back into the engine causing severe engine damage.
CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
