Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
    NOTE:

    Before installing the camshaft, check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear.

  1. Check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear:
    • Timing chain guides with plastic attachment
    • Timing chain tensioner and timing chain tensioner shoe with plastic attachment
    • Timing chain and all timing chain sprockets
    • Oil pump sprocket
    • Oil pump drive chain tensioner

    For Install a NEW exhaust camshaft do not remove the transport lock (1), before the exhaust camshaft and intake camshaft are installed.

    NOTE:

    If new camshafts are used, transmit the front marks (1) on the back.

    Marking the exhaust camshaft sprocket and intake camshaft sprocket with paint marks (2), by transmit the front marks (1).

    Coat all bearing surfaces with engine oil.

  5. Install the exhaust camshaft (1), ensure the bore (2) of the camshaft sprocket shows upwards.

    NOTE:

    Note the arrows as marks on the camshaft bearing caps, which shows on the outside of the cylinder head.

    Install the exhaust camshaft bearing caps (2) in the order as they was removed.

  7. Install the exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolts (1).

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Tighten the 8 exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolts in sequence as shown to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

    Coat all bearing surfaces with engine oil.

  10. NOTE:

    Ensure the marks (2) of the camshaft sprocket are aligned.

  11. Install the intake camshaft (1).

    Check the marks (1) of the camshaft sprockets whether they are aligned.

    NOTE:

    Note the arrows as marks on the camshaft bearing caps, which shows on the outside of the cylinder head.

    Install the 4 intake camshaft bearing caps (2) in the order as they was removed.

  14. Install the 8 intake camshaft bearing cap bolts (1).

    Tighten the 8 intake camshaft bearing cap bolts in sequence as shown to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

    Remove the EN-50509  fixing tool (1) or the transport lock from the exhaust camshaft sprocket (2).

    Coat all bearing surfaces with engine oil.

  18. Install the camshaft bearing rear cap (2).
  19. Install the 4 camshaft bearing rear cap bolts (1).

    Tighten the 4 camshaft rear cap bolts in sequence as shown to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

    Install the EN-51143  fixing tool (1), by carefully turning the hexagon of the camshaft.

    Slide the camshaft sprocket (1) over the pin (2) of the EN-51188  fixing tool in arrow direction.

    NOTE:

    Cover the timing case with a lint-free cloth.

    Check that the camshaft sprocket (1) on the camshaft properly applied.

  24. Install the camshaft sprocket bolts (2) and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft), counterhold with a wrench at the camshaft hexagon.

    Remove the 2 bolts (3).

  26. Remove the EN-51188  fixing tool (2).

    NOTE:

    Cover the timing case with a lint-free cloth.

    Install the camshaft sprocket bolt (2) to the camshaft sprocket (1) and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft), counterhold with a wrench at the camshaft hexagon.

    Remove the EN-51143  fixing tool (1).

  29. Raise the vehicle.

    Remove the 2 bolts (3).

  31. Remove the EN-51140  fixing tool (2).

    Install the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).

    Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees in direction of arrow. Use a pry bar at the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).

  33. Lower the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    Cover the timing case with a lint-free cloth.

    Install the camshaft sprocket bolt (2) and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft), counterhold with a wrench at the camshaft hexagon.

  35. Raise the vehicle.

    Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees in direction of arrow. Use a pry bar.

  37. Remove the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).

    Install the EN-51140  fixing tool (2).

  39. Install the fixing pin into the engine block bore (1) and tighten the 2 bolts (3).
  40. Lower the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    If the EN-51143  fixing tool does not fit, adjust timing.

    Install the EN-51143  fixing tool (1), by carefully turning the hexagon of the camshaft.

  42. Remove the EN-51143  fixing tool.
  43. Raise the vehicle.

    Remove the 2 bolts (3).

  45. Remove the EN-51140  fixing tool (2).
  46. Install the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Crankshaft Pulley Replacement .
  47. Install the camshaft housing. Refer to Camshaft Housing Replacement .
  48. Install the throttle body assembly. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement .
  49. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  50. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
