Piston, Connecting Rod, and Bearing Removal

Special Tools 

EN-51140  Crankshaft Fixing Tool

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

    Remove and DISCARD the 4 connecting rod bearing cap bolts (3) from the cylinder 2 and the cylinder 3.

  2. NOTE:

    Lay aside in the order as they was removed.

    NOTE:

    The shear surfaces of the connecting rod and the connecting rod bearing cap form a unique fit and must not be swapped or damaged. Do not lay down on the shear surfaces.

  3. Remove the 2 connecting rod bearing caps (2) from the cylinder 2 and the cylinder 3.
  4. NOTE:

    Lay aside in the order as they was removed.

  5. Remove the 2 connecting rod lower bearings (1).

    NOTE:

    Lay aside in the order as they was removed.

    Push the 2 pistons (1) with the 2 connecting rods (2) out of the cylinder 2 and the cylinder 3 upwards.

  7. NOTE:

    Lay aside in the order as they was removed.

  8. Remove the 2 connecting rod upper bearings (3) from the 2 connecting rods (2).

    Remove the 2 bolts (3).

  10. Remove the EN-51140  fixing tool (2).

    Install the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).

  12. Set the cylinder 2 to TDC. Rotate the crankshaft 180 degrees, use a pry bar at the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).

    Remove and DISCARD the 4 connecting rod bearing cap bolts (3) from the cylinder 1 and the cylinder 4.

  14. NOTE:

    Lay aside in the order as they was removed.

    NOTE:

  15. Remove the 2 connecting rod bearing caps (2) from the cylinder 1 and the cylinder 4.
  16. NOTE:

    Lay aside in the order as they was removed.

  17. Remove the 2 connecting rod lower bearings (1).

    NOTE:

    Lay aside in the order as they was removed.

    Push the 2 pistons (1) with the 2 connecting rods (4) out of the cylinder 1 and the cylinder 4 upwards.

  19. NOTE:

    Lay aside in the order as they was removed.

  20. Remove the 2 connecting rod upper bearings (3) from the 2 connecting rods (4).
