Oil Pan Installation

Special Tools 

DT-48254  Installer

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

  1. Install the NEW suction pipe gasket (1) to the provided red cap (2).

    NOTE: The red cap (2) is included in delivery of the new oil suction seal ring.
  2. Install a NEW oil pump sealing (2) to the oil pump (1).

  3. Install the NEW suction pipe seal ring (1) by means of the provided red cap (2).

  4. Using the DT-48254  installer (1), apply a light hammer hit to ensure a proper seat of the suction pipe seal ring.

  5. Remove the red cap from the suction pipe seal ring.
  6. Check the proper installation position of the suction pipe seal ring. The gap between the oil pump (1) and the seal ring (2) has to be constant and less than 0.5 mm (0.02 in).

  7. Clean the sealing surface from the oil pump suction pipe (3).
  8. Ensure that the oil pan sealing surfaces are clear of oil, grease and oil gasket material. Clean the oil pan sealing surface.
  9. Coat the oil pan sealing surface with a suitable sealing compound. The thickness of the sealing bead should be 2 mm (0.0787 in).

    NOTE: DO NOT coat sealant on the oil pan bolt holes, it could block the oil pan bolt threads or the engine block.
    NOTE: Refer to the electronic parts catalog to find a suitable sealing compound.
  10. Install the oil pan (1).
    NOTE: The installation procedure should be done in 10 minutes.
  11. Install the 10 oil pan bolts (1, 2, 3) and hand tighten.

  12. Align the oil pan to the engine block. Use the bearing surfaces from oil pan (3, 4) and engine block (1, 2).

    • Surfaces (1) to (4). See step  13.
    • Surfaces (2) to (3). See step  14.
  13. Use a straight edge (1) to align the transmission bearing surfaces of oil pan and engine block exactly to each other.

    NOTE: A second technician is required.

  15. Tighten the 10 M8 bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  16. Tighten the 4 M6 bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  17. Check the alignment of the transmission bearing surfaces. Perform the steps  12,  13 and  14 over again.
