Installation Procedure

- Position the steering gear (4) on the drivetrain and front suspension frame.
- Install the steering gear bolts (3), washers (2), and nuts (1).
Use NEW bolts.
- Tighten the NEW steering gear bolts (3).
Tighten
- First Pass: 100 N.m (74 lb ft)
- Final Pass: (90-105 degrees)
- Install the front stabilizer shaft on the drivetrain and front suspension frame. Stabilizer Shaft Replacement
- Raise the rear of the drivetrain and front suspension frame.

- Remove the adjustable stands from underneath the vehicle.
- Rear Transmission Mount Through Bolt - Install - Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Rear (AWD)Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Rear (FWD)
- Exhaust Isolator@Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame - Install - Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LUV)Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (2H0)
- Front Lower Control Arm@Steering Knuckle - Install - Lower Control Arm Replacement
- Front Stabilizer Shaft Link@Front Stabilizer Shaft - Install - Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
- Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod@Steering Knuckle - Install - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement
- Intermediate Steering Shaft@Steering Gear - Install - Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (NJ1)
- Measure and adjust the front toe. Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment
CAUTION:
This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.
NOTE:
Start ALL fasteners by hand before tightening.
