Installation Procedure

  1. Install the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft Installation (6.2L LS3) or Camshaft Installation (LS3 with Z52 Option, LS7, LS9) .
  2. Align the camshaft sprocket alignment mark in the 6 o'clock position (1).

  3. Install the camshaft sprocket (205) and timing chain (208).

    Recheck the alignment of the timing marks.

    4. CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  4. Install the camshaft sprocket bolts (206) and tighten to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
  5. Apply a 5 mm (0.2 in) bead of sealant 20 mm (0.8 in) long to the oil pan to engine block junction. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number.
  6. Install the oil pump, screen, and crankshaft oil deflector. Refer to Oil Pump, Screen and Crankshaft Oil Deflector Installation (6.2L LS3) .

  7. Install the front cover (502) and a new gasket (503).
  8. Install the front cover bolts (501) until snug.

  9. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Installation (6.2L LS3) or Oil Pan Installation (LS3 with Z52 Option, LS7, LS9) .
  10. Install the EN-47812  over the bolt to the crankshaft.
  11. Install the EN-47813  .
  12. Insert the tapered surface of the tool into the oil seal bore of the cover EN-47812  washer and nut.

    Tighten the nut by hand until snug. Do not overtighten. Tighten the engine front cover bolts to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

  13. Remove the tools.
  14. Install a NEW crankshaft front oil seal. Refer to Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installation (6.2L LS3) or Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installation (LS3 with Z52 Option, LS7, LS9) .
  15. Install the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Lifter Installation .
  16. Install the right and left cylinder heads. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation - Right Side (6.2L LS3) or Cylinder Head Installation - Right Side (6.2L LS9) or Cylinder Head Installation - Right Side (7.0L) and Cylinder Head Installation - Left Side (6.2L LS3) or Cylinder Head Installation - Left Side (6.2L LS9) or Cylinder Head Installation - Left Side (7.0L) .
  17. Install the valve rocker arms and push rods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Installation (6.2L LS3) or Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Installation (6.2L LS9) or Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Installation (7.0L) .
  18. Install the right and left valve rocker arm covers. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation - Right Side (6.2L LS3) or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation - Right Side (6.2L LS9) or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation - Right Side (7.0L) and Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation - Left Side (6.2L LS3) or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation - Left Side (7.0L) or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation - Left Side (6.2L LS9) .
  19. Install the supercharger. Refer to Supercharger Installation .
  20. Install the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Installation (6.2L LS3) or Water Pump Installation (6.2L LS9) or Water Pump Installation (7.0L) .
  21. Install the left and right exhaust manifolds. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Installation - Left Side (6.2L LS3) or Exhaust Manifold Installation - Left Side (LS7, LS9) and Exhaust Manifold Installation - Right Side (6.2L LS3) or Exhaust Manifold Installation - Right Side (LS7, LS9) .
  22. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Installation (6.2L LS3) or Crankshaft Balancer Installation (LS3 with Z52 Option, LS7) or Crankshaft Balancer Installation (6.2L LS9) .
  23. Install the engine assembly. Refer to Engine Replacement (Except LS9)  or Engine Replacement (LS9) .
