Drum Brake Backing Plate: Installation

  1. Install the rear brake backing plate. Install the rear brake backing plate retaining bolts and washers. Tighten the rear brake backing plate retaining bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Install the rear wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDER  . Install the rear brake shoes. See BRAKE SHOES  . Remove the pin from the park brake lever.
  3. Adjust the rear brakes. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  . Bleed the brake system. See BLEEDING, FILLING & FLUSHING BRAKE SYSTEM  .
  4. Install the tire and wheel. Adjust the park brake if necessary. See PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  .
  5. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
