Brake Shoes: Installation

  1. Lubricate the rear brake backing plate and the adjusting screw threads with a thin coat of high temperature silicone lubricant.
  2. Install the rear brake shoes. Install the rear brake shoe adjuster. See Figure .
  3. Install the rear brake shoe adjuster spring. See Figure . The coils of the adjusting screw spring must not touch the adjusting screw. Install the rear park brake lever strut and spring.
  4. Install the rear brake shoe actuator link. See Figure . Instal the rear brake shoe actuator and spring.
  5. Install the shoe guide. See Figure . Install the hold-down pins. Install the hold-down springs. Install the rear brake shoe return springs. See Figure .
  6. Install the rear brake drum to the vehicle. See BRAKE DRUM  .
  7. Remove the pin to the park brake lever. See ENABLING THE PARK BRAKE CABLE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER  . Install the tire and wheel.
  8. Adjust the rear brakes. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  . Adjust the park brake if necessary. See PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  .
