End Play Check

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, 2003 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado, and 2002 GMC Sierra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Position torque converter on workbench with pump hub upward. Install End Play Gauge (J-43764) or equivalent, into converter hub. While holding end play gauge, rotate center screw until gauge locks into converter hub. DO NOT overtighten. Assemble remainder of special tools, as shown, onto torque converter. See Fig 1.
  2. Adjust Lug Attachment (J-5959-7) or equivalent, so Dial Indicator (J-5959-1) or equivalent, firmly contacts top of end play gauge. Set dial indicator to zero and lift end play gauge upward as far as possible. Read dial indicator and note results.
  3. Compare measurements to specifications. See TORQUE CONVERTER MODULE SPECIFICATIONS  table under TRANSMISSION SPECIFICATIONS. If measured end play exceeds maximum specification, replace torque converter.
